Renovation and sustainability projects at the Québec City Convention Centre
The Québec City Convention Centre, which welcomes nearly 200,000 visitors annually within its 300,000 square feet of space, continues its commitment to innovation and sustainability through various renovation and maintenance projects.
In 2024, several initiatives were implemented to ensure that clients and users of this large-scale building benefit from modern, eco-friendly facilities and equipment:
For an enhanced experience
-
Energy-Efficient Lighting
- Replacement of quartz fixtures in Exhibit Hall 400 with new LED lights that consume five times less energy.
- Replacement of halogen and fluorescent lights in meeting and workshop rooms on level 2 with energy-saving LED bulbs, providing more versatility and better energy efficiency.
-
Waste Management
- Complete review of waste management procedures (currently underway), in collaboration with Stratzer, to improve existing processes and achieve the Performance level of Recyc-Québec’s certification ICI on recycle + (IOR+) certification by 2025.
- Installation of a new dynamic signage monitor at the main entrance to eliminate the need for printed paper for each event, making it easier to direct attendees and visitors as soon as they arrive.
Construction and renovation work carried out at the Convention Centre complies with the CRD Waste Management Policy (construction-renovation-demolition), which aims to divert this type of waste from landfill and incineration sites, redirecting it to recovery or recycling facilities and encouraging reuse.
-
Furniture and Coverings
- Replacement of the padding and covering on nearly 8,700 chairs by 2025, using fabric made in Québec.
- Replacement of the carpet covering the floor in Convention Hall 200 with a new, more modern design.
- Replacement of the tops of large round tables used for banquets; the new tabletops were crafted by Prise, a social integration company specializing in woodworking.
