The Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury: a brand new venue for events in Québec City
Event planners organizing an upcoming conference or convention in Québec City now have an amazing new venue option: the brand-new Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury.
The Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury is home to the oldest Francophone regiment in Canada.
Originally built in 1887 and expanded in 1913, the Armoury has always been a prominent fixture in Old Québec.
Unfortunately, it was severely damaged by a fire in April 2008. However, in November 2012, the Government of Canada unveiled its massive reconstruction project for The Armoury, which represented an investment of over $100 million.
The Armoury will once again open, rising from the ashes, in April 2018, as a venue for large-scale events. Its new design, which blends a combination of historic and modern architecture, pays homage to its long-standing heritage and tradition; in fact, despite the damage caused by the fire, the building still retains some of its architectural integrity, including the original stonework, and its unique Château style. The architects in charge of the project actually even used the building’s original plans to rebuild the Armoury as another nod to the past.
The Armoury has a décor that can simply not be found anywhere else in Canada,” Ms. Caron said. “The fact that it is situated right in Old Québec and only minutes away from the Québec City Convention Centre makes the Armoury a definite must for any event planner looking to create a one-of-a-kind experience for delegates.
Still nestled between the iconic Plains of Abraham and Grande Allée, the Armoury can welcome up to 1,300 people. The event space features three rooms of various sizes: 21,525 sq. ft., 12,900 sq.ft and 8,600 sq. ft., respectively, as well as a large foyer area with stunning views of the Plains of Abraham.
All meeting space areas offer an exceptional acoustic quality and all the cutting-edge amenities of a modern venue, including high-speed Internet access and audio-visual equipment. The expansive windows offer amazing natural lighting and offer a breathtaking backdrop for day or evening events.
The Armoury also has two artist changing rooms, two rooms for event organization committees. In addition, a commemorative hall and small museum offer captivating insight into the Voltigeurs de Québec’s history and military life in Québec.
Two local caterers, both which are reputed for their amazing quality, creativity and customer service, have been accredited by the Armoury: George V, which is also the manager of the multifunctional event rooms at the Armoury, and the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.
“It is quite a masterpiece,” explained Ms. Johanne Caron, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Hôtel Château Laurier Québec and the George V. “Everyone who walks into the Armoury are in awe.”
The Armoury has already started booking events; the first will be taking place at the end of April. “The Armoury has a décor that can simply not be found anywhere else in Canada,” Ms. Caron said. “The fact that it is situated right in Old Québec and only minutes away from the Québec City Convention Centre makes the Armoury a definite must for any event planner looking to create a one-of-a-kind experience for delegates.
