16 Ambassadors Honored For Their Contribution

Québec City, January 29, 2018 - Québec City, January 29, 2018 - At the Homage to the Ambassadors event held on January 26 at the Entourage sur-le-lac Resort, the Ambassadors’ Circle honored 16 of its members who, in addition to their regular professional activities, helped promote the Québec City area by organizing an international conference. These events generated $20 million in economic spinoffs in 2017.
Ambassador of the Year
This designation recognizes the outstanding efforts of an ambassador who, through their commitment, perseverance, and determination over the years, has made a remarkable contribution to showcasing the Québec City area as a business destination.
Louis-Philippe Boulet, a pulmonologist at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute and full professor at Université Laval’s Faculty of Medicine, was named Ambassador of the Year for 2017.
He has organized many international congresses, conferences, and symposia, including the following events in Québec City: 2nd Biennale de l’Espace francophone de pneumologie in 2017 (800 attendees), the World Asthma Conference in 2012 (1,000 attendees), and Congrès Québec-France en santé respiratoire in 2008 (600 attendees).
Event of the Year
This distinction recognizes the outstanding work of the ambassador responsible for hosting the North American or international event that generated the most economic spinoffs in the Greater Québec City area in the past year.
Angel Ruiz and Irène Abi-Zeid of the Operations and Decision Systems Department in the Faculty of Business Administration at Université Laval and Bernard Gendron of Université de Montréal won the 2017 Event of the Year award for the 21st Conference of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies. The event drew 1,528 attendees to the Québec City Convention Centre in July 2017 and generated $5.4 million in economic spinoffs for the region.
